The Winds of Change.
People value the freedom to choose, and to have a variety of choices and the knowledge to make an informed decision, especially regarding our healthcare. They are concerned that their standard of care is falling while costs skyrocket and tired of harsh drugs and invasive surgeries that seem to sometimes do more harm than good. More and more people are seeking alternatives, or at least something to help them along the way.
Holistic Care:
A Breath of Fresh Air
Holistic healthcare practitioners view and treat a person's health based on their entire being; mind, body and spirit. They acknowledge and understand that surgery or drugs that target a specific symptom or area of the body have their place, and are extremely useful; but are not the end-all of care. Often times these methods overlook subtle but extremely vital aspects of health that need to be addressed for true healing to occur. Holistic practitioners view their role in healthcare as that of a partner or a guide, working with their clients on a very personal level to help them achieve their goals. Massage, Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Chiropractic, Esoteric Psychology and Counseling, Music Therapy and Reiki are but a few examples of the myriad of holistic therapies available. As these diverse options become more widely accepted, a greater number of people are using these "alternative and complimentary" therapies as primary care and western allopathic medicine as an adjunct.
